Necropolis sa Figu

 Indirizzo: 07044 Ittiri (SS)

The necropolis Domus de Janas of Sa Figu is located in the northern edge of the plateau of Coros, an archaeological site of great importance for the presence of historic evidence from different periods. The graves are ascribable to at least three phases of construction and use: the oldest phase, which can be dated back to the Late Neolithic Age (Ozieri culture), when a small group of Domus de Janas characterised by a simple floor plan was dug; the second, which can be dated back to the Copper Age (Monte Claro); and finally, the most recent phase, which can be dated back to the Middle Bronze Age and the beginning of the Nuragic age, when the so-called "ipoei a prospetto architettonico” (hypogea with new architectonic elements on the façade) spread in the north-west of Sardinia. In Sa Figu-Ittiri, there are at least three preexisting Domus de Janas that were enlarged and transformed into "domus a prospetto architettonico", with the addition, on the facade, of the orthostatic elements of the curved stele and the exedra; instead, the upper grave was made of stones held in place by orthostatic side slabs. Among the graves of the main group, only one was dug anew. The site was characterised by different Nuragic evidence, including the well-known bronze statue of the ithyphallic player of launeddas.
